Window & Door Quote Checklist for Toronto Homeowners

By GreenOn Homes · Published

A useful quote identifies what you are buying, who is installing it, what finishing is included and how extra work is approved. Put competing quotes side by side and resolve missing items before comparing totals.

Describe the result you want

Start with your city, the number of openings and the reason for replacing them. For a door, describe the current frame, swing direction, sidelights, hardware and any problem at the threshold. For windows, list the rooms and which openings need ventilation. Include photographs where possible and label them by room.

Separate essentials from preferences. You might need a door that operates reliably while still deciding on decorative glass, or need better ventilation while remaining open to several window styles. A clear brief makes differences between proposed solutions easier to understand.

Confirm the product and the work

Ask the estimator to attach a schedule for each opening. Keep revisions together so you can identify the version you accepted.

  • Measured dimensions, quantity, model and opening direction.
  • Interior and exterior colours, glass, screens, locks and handles.
  • Removal method, disposal and protection of surrounding finishes.
  • Insulation, sealing, trim, threshold and sill work where applicable.
  • Responsibility for painting, patching and unexpected repairs.
  • Who performs installation and who handles follow-up questions.

Resolve the commercial details

Ask for the full installed price and a clear statement of taxes and exclusions. Confirm when measurements become final, when the order is placed and which selections must be settled first. Keep any financing offer separate from the product comparison so you can understand both the project cost and the payment arrangement.

Have the company explain its deposit, payment and scheduling terms in writing. If the scope changes after work starts, ask how the revised price and timing will be agreed before the extra work proceeds. Do not rely on a verbal promise that is missing from the final quote.

Plan the handover before installation

Ask for the written product and installation warranty terms that apply to your order, including exclusions and the contact for service. Do not assume that a headline warranty term covers every component or all labour. Keep the model details and purchase documents together.

Arrange a final walkthrough covering operation, locks, screens, visible finishing and cleanup. Ask how to care for the installed products and how to report a concern. GreenOn Homes can discuss your project from its Concord base and confirm coverage for your Toronto or GTA address.
